Mbabane: Ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus globally, Eswatini has recorded a total of 33 health workers who have been infected with COVID-19.
Minister of Health Lizzy Nkosi said this includes doctors, nurses, Paramedics, cleaner, hospital clerk to name but a few. Nkosi revealed this during a press briefing held at the cabinet offices on Friday (22/05/2020) when giving update about Eswatini response to COVID-19. Nkosi said none of them has died but 10 of them have been treated and discharged, 10 have tested negative on the first treatment tests and awaiting for second test results and the 13 still undergoing treatment, responding well to the treatment.
Nkosi encouraged all the health workers to continue taking all precautionary measures necessary whenever they are doing their work.
Nkosi went on to give a detailed breakdown of the areas where most COVID-19 cases in Eswatini have been found. In Manzini Region most are from the city and the surrounding areas like Ngwane Park, KaShali and Fairview. There are also cases from Matsapha, Eteni, Kwaluseni and Ludzeludze. In Lubombo Region most are from the Siteki, where most are health workers and also there are cases from Siphofaneni. In Hhohho Region most cases are from the Mbabane city suburbs, Mvutjini, Pigg’s Peak and Buhleni. Lastly but not least, in the Shiselweni region most are from Nhlangano.
Nkosi encouraged people with pre-existing illnesses to take extra care for themselves as it becomes much hard for them to recover easily from the coronavirus. This people include those with diabetes, HIV/AIDS, TB amongst other illnesses. Nkosi said people with those illnesses also recover from COVID-19 hence they are encouraged to continue taking their medications as prescribed by doctors.
