Mbabane: The total number of confirmed cases in Eswatini has increased to 175, Health Minister Lizzy Nkosi announced on Monday.
Nkosi made the announcement at the Cabinet Offices in Mbabane. Nkosi said the ministry received 100 results, of which 97 tested negative and 3 positive.
The breakdown of the new cases is as follows:
Case #173 is a 26 year-old female from Manzini Region and is asymptomatic.
Case #174 is a 20 year-old female from Manzini Region and presented mild symptoms.
Case #175 is a 19 year-old female from Manzini Region who and also presented mild symptoms.
Nkosi went on to announce an additional recovery taking the total of recovered and discharged cases to 28.
The Minister said the trend of cases in the kingdom is showing an upward trend on new cases. Nkosi said this is affected by the lab results turn-around time, also new findings in contact tracing, screening, swab collection and sample transportation activities at regional and family levels.
Nkosi explained that the recent cases are recorded from all the four regions of the country, however Manzini still shows to be the epicenter of the pandemic in the country. Nkosi said one of the factors leading to that is the activities around contact tracing through Rapid Response Teams(RRTs). Manzini and Hhohho have seen an increase in the number of RRTs from two to three.
Nkosi went on to reveal that the ministry has also increased screening and specimen collection activities in the Health care facilities hence the increase in case findings.
The Ministry of health continues to appreciate health workers for their dedication and commitment to the pandemic in the country as they are in the frontline in the fight against the pandemic.
