Mpakeni- the construction of the Mpakeni Dam is still at early stages sitting at 4. 1 per cent.
The progress report was shared by Valey Vilane , who is the Chief Resident Engineer of the supervising consultant during the tour of the project by members of the editors forum at Mpakeni on Thursday last week. Vilane started that the contractor, Sakhalive Joint Venture was slightly behind schedule, they were supposed to be at least at around nine per cent . He mentioned that most of the delays were caused by industrial actions that have been experienced over the past few months caused by salaries and wages disagreements.
He further revealed that the construction started on February 2024 and was targeted to be completed in 2028. He shared that in as much as the construction was slightly behind, he was confident that the contractor would catch up the lost time and complete the project on the stipulated time frame. The engineer started that the job already done include the construction of management camp and offices by the site.
It was also observed that the contractor had already started the groundwork, which include blasting, among other things. He further mentioned that about 412 emaSwati have been employed, which include 35 senior managers. He said as the project progresses, it was expected that at least l 000 people would be employed.
