Mbabane – A 64-year-old American national, Terrence Denour, has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Mbabane Magistrate’s Court on charges of assault and theft by false pretences.
Denour is accused of attacking Aggrey Livingstone at Victoria Guesthouse in the Hhohho Region on March 22, 2026. It is alleged that he shouted aggressively at the complainant and repeatedly poked him on the body.
In a second charge, the accused allegedly promised to pay E650 for services rendered but failed to do so, leading to the theft by false pretences charge.
The matter was heard before Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi, Court proceedings show that Denour was informed of his right to legal representation and initially chose to conduct his own defence.
He disclosed that he intended to hire an attorney after receiving contacts from his embassy. However, he told the court that he could not reach the lawyers as he was told phones were out of order and they were not working. He then elected to proceed without legal representation.
The Crown, represented by Prosecutor Mazibuko, sought postponements to allow the accused time to secure legal counsel.
The accused first appeared on March 31, 2026, when the matter was postponed due to the late hour and he was remanded in custody.
On April 9, Denour confirmed that he would represent himself. The court has set the matter down for trial on April 10, 2026.
