Mbabane – The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) is working tirelessly to restore power following widespread outages caused by a severe thunderstorm that struck the northern region of the country last night.
The storm, which left significant damage in its wake, has been particularly devastating in areas such as Manzini, Pigg’s Peak, Siteki, Madlangempisi, and Big Bend. EEC reported approximately 4,000 faults across the nation, with Manzini accounting for 651 of the issues.
Power lines were brought down by the strong winds, and several poles were damaged. Tripped fuses and other electrical infrastructure also added to the chaos, leaving many residents without electricity.
EEC crews have begun repairing the damage in accessible locations, but the recovery efforts have faced delays in some areas due to flooded rivers, slippery conditions, and blocked roads. The company has mobilised all available personnel and resources to expedite the restoration process.
As restoration continues, EEC urges the public to stay safe and treat all fallen power lines as live and dangerous. They are advising residents to keep a safe distance from any damaged infrastructure and report any hazards to their emergency services.
The power company expressed gratitude for the public’s patience as they work to navigate the challenges brought on by the storm and complete repairs.
