Mbabane – The Athletics Eswatini (AE) Board has successfully concluded a two day strategic retreat at Magadzavane Lodge in the Lubombo Region, finalising a draft operational plan that will guide the organisation’s work in 2026.
The retreat, which began on Friday afternoon and ended on Saturday afternoon, focused on strengthening key pillars aimed at elevating athletics development in the country.
At the core of discussions were athlete development, governance, resource mobilization, marketing, and competitions and opportunities. These areas form the backbone of AE’s long term ambitions and were prioritised to ensure clear, measurable actions for the coming year.
EFA’s Bizza Mkhonta played a pivotal role in the retreat, offering expert guidance that helped shape the structure and content of the operational plan. His insights were credited with refining AE’s approach to planning and accountability.
The Secretariat delivered a detailed report on AE’s 2025 activities, outlining both challenges and practical solutions, while the Treasurer presented an update on the organisation’s financial standing. These reports framed the planning process and provided context for the goals set for 2026.
By the close of the retreat, AE Board Members had successfully completed the draft operational plan, marking what officials described as a significant step toward strengthening athletics administration and athlete support nationwide.AE expressed appreciation to its Board Members and Secretariat for their commitment, emphasising that the retreat’s outcomes reflect a renewed drive to enhance the organisation’s performance and create better opportunities for athletes across Eswatini.
