ESRC bids farewell to duo headed for Oyama World Cup

Mbabane – The Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) has officially sent off athletes Cebile Gama and Mpendulo Maxonga, who will represent the country at the 2025 Oyama World Cup in Japan.

The prestigious global tournament will take place from November 29 to 30, 2025.

Gama and Maxonga are set to compete against some of the world’s top martial artists, marking a significant moment for Eswatini’s participation on the international karate stage. Their selection is viewed as a boost for the sport’s development in the country and a source of national pride.

During the farewell, ESRC officials expressed confidence in the pair’s readiness, highlighting their discipline, dedication and impressive performances in recent competitions. The Council emphasized the importance of supporting athletes who showcase Eswatini’s talent on global platforms.
