Denver, Colorado – Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy interrupted his Red Rocks Amphitheatre show after noticing a couple asleep in the front row, calling them out and having them escorted out by security. The incident, captured on video, quickly went viral on TikTok, Instagram, and X.
During the performance, Burna Boy stopped mid-song, pointed at the couple, and addressed the audience, saying, “When I stand up here and see you with your girl sleeping in front of me… that’s where y’all f*** off. Please, take her the f*** home!” The audience reacted with a mix of shocked gasps, awkward laughter, and stunned silence as security escorted the couple out.
Attendees told Nehanda Radio and other outlets that Burna Boy had revealed earlier in the night that he was extremely ill and had almost cancelled the show. “I almost didn’t make the show. I’m so sick… but the show goes on,” he reportedly told fans, frequently pausing for water and appearing physically strained throughout the performance.
Hours later, the woman at the centre of the incident, Chalt Jateny, publicly identified herself and left a comment under a TikTok video, saying, “I am the girl who was kicked out of the show last night. It was embarrassing and humiliating.” She added that the situation was far more painful than the clip revealed.
The incident has sparked a global debate on social media, with many pointing out that fans attend concerts under a variety of personal circumstances, including exhaustion, medical conditions, or emotional struggles. Some observers argued that Burna Boy should apologise to the couple, suggesting that his reaction may have been disproportionate despite his illness.
