Mbabane: Returning Form 5 learners have expressed their concern about their safety in public transport after they observed violation of Covid-19 regulations.
In an interview with this publication, pupils from Somnjalose and Elangeni High schools said most of them use public transport to and from school on a daily basis and today (Monday) they noticed that the public transport operators did not follow the regulations like disinfecting the buses as well as not providing sanitizers for them to clean their hands.
The pupils expressed their disappointment with the government’s decision to allow buses to load up 80 percent capacity which violates the social distancing regulation. “There are no ample spaces between passengers as the kombis are almost full,” said Lungelo Maseko from Elangeni High School, adding that it is wrong for government to put their lives at risk by allowing such a big number of passengers.
“We are scared because some of us board buses and kombis because it is the only means of transport,” said another scholar, adding that it is shocking that the bus conductors did not bother to sanitize their hands before they stepped into the buses, despite making such promises to the ministry of education.
