Luve – Eswatini joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Food Day 2025, placing farmers at the heart of the celebration under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future.” The national event, held in Luve, brought together the Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka, FAO Eswatini, EWADE, and other partners to honour the country’s farming community.
The commemoration was marked by a field visit, where the minister and partners walked alongside local farmers to witness their work and innovations first-hand. The visit highlighted the shared commitment between government, institutions, and communities to strengthen food systems and advance food security in Eswatini.
Speaking during the event, Minister Tshawuka applauded the Marrime brothers of Marrime Farms, who have become a symbol of youth-driven innovation in agriculture. “Marrime Farms is a great example of climate-smart agriculture and value chain integration. We are inspired by young people producing at this scale, and we pledge continued support toward food sovereignty,” he said.
The Marrime brothers’ success story reflects a new generation of farmers blending climate-smart practices with traditional knowledge, proving that agriculture in Eswatini is not only about survival but about building a sustainable legacy.
FAO and EWADE representatives echoed the minister’s sentiments, emphasising the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing challenges such as climate change, poverty, and food insecurity
