Kerala, India – Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has died in Kerala, India, after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk on Wednesday.
The 80-year-old opposition leader was undergoing Ayurvedic treatment at a medical and research centre in Koothattukulam, located in Kerala’s Ernakulam district. He reportedly collapsed while walking within the facility’s premises and was rushed to Devamatha Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at about 9:52 a.m. local time.
Hospital officials confirmed that Odinga’s daughter and other relatives were present at the time of his passing.
Odinga had arrived in India six days earlier for treatment, a trip that drew wide attention in Kenya as speculation over his health spread across social media.
Police in Kerala said the necessary notifications had been made to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) following his death.
