MBABANE – Motorists entering Eswatini through land borders with South Africa and Mozambique are now paying revised toll fees after the Ministry of Finance confirmed the new charges became effective on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Finance, working jointly with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS), announced that the changes were made under Section 4 of the Finance (Amendment) Act of 2025. The review affects both foreign and locally registered vehicles.
According to the new tariff, foreign-registered motorcycles, with or without sidecars, are required to pay E80, while light motor vehicles will be charged E150 at South African entry points. Heavy motor vehicles face charges ranging from E350 to E450 depending on axle number and weight.
At the Mhlumeni and Lomahasha borders with Mozambique, light commercial vehicles from outside the country are charged E150. Heavy vehicles with two axles and weighing above 3 500 kg but less than 7 500 kg must pay E350, while larger trucks with three axles or more attract a fee equivalent to USD100 per truck.
Locally registered vehicles also fall under the new system, with light vehicles paying E55 and heavy motor vehicles charged between E60 and E100 depending on size.
Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg, Public Works and Transport Minister Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe and ERS Commissioner General Brightwell Nkambule jointly made the announcement, urging motorists to familiarise themselves with the new fees to avoid disruptions at ports of entry.
