New York, 26 September 2025 – Representatives from Arab states gathered at the United Nations Headquarters during the eightieth UN General Assembly to discuss the implementation of the Arab Vision 2045. The round table was organised by the UN Development Programme’s Regional Bureau for Arab States, in collaboration with the League of Arab States and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia.
The session brought together senior officials from Arab member states, UN representatives, technical experts, and development partners to map out strategies to achieve the Vision, which was endorsed at the Arab Summit in Baghdad earlier this year. The Vision aims to provide a roadmap for sustainable development, peace, and prosperity across the Arab region.
Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary General of the League of Arab States, said the Vision represents collective aspirations for the region’s future and encourages joint action and regional cooperation. Rola Dashti, Executive Secretary of ESCWA, added that the Vision builds on Arab heritage and human-centred values, seeking measurable progress through innovative policies and regional collaboration.
The discussions focused on six pillars underpinning the Vision: security and safety, justice and equity, innovation and creativity, prosperity and balanced development, diversity and dynamism, and cultural and intellectual renewal. Experts explored actionable steps to support national development plans, recover from regional conflicts, and harness technology and innovation to build knowledge-driven economies.
Abdallah Al Dardari, Director of UNDP-RBAS, noted that practical measures, performance monitoring, and policy support would be essential for translating the Vision into tangible results, with UNDP ready to provide expertise and integrated development solutions across the region.
