Lobamba – The House of Assembly has launched an investigation into alleged favouritism in staff deployment at the country’s two state broadcasters, Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) and Eswatini TV.
This follows a motion moved by Mtfongwaneni Member of Parliament (MP) Nathi Hlophe, a former EBIS employee, who claimed that certain officers were sidelined during external assignments, particularly trips accompanying the head of state and head of government. He alleged that newsroom staff were consistently favoured over other employees at both stations.
In response, the House elected a seven-member Select Committee chaired by Somntongo MP Sandile Nxumalo to probe the matter. The committee began its investigations on Monday, September 22, 2025, by interviewing Hon. Hlophe and other stakeholders.
The inquiry is expected to continue this week, with employees and management of EBIS and Eswatini TV scheduled to appear before the committee on Wednesday. The committee will review the allegations and report back to Parliament with its findings and recommendations.
