Hhohho – The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has carried out road inspections across the Hhohho Region, targeting routes in need of maintenance, paving, and upgrades to improve safety and ease travel for communities.
The exercise began at the Gobholo route, where officials led by Principal Secretary Thulani Mkhaliphi met Mbabane East MP Welcome Dlamini and community leaders. The road, increasingly used as an alternative to the congested Malagwane MR3, was found to require widening, paving, and an upgrade of a low-level crossing. Work on the crossing is scheduled to start in October 2025.
To address challenges on this route, the Ministry outlined plans for a coordinated intervention involving the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Mbabane Municipality, and Public Works to create a sustainable long-term solution.
The team also inspected the service road linking Mbuluzi and Nsukumbili via Sibebe Resort, a vital route for tourism and local businesses. Improvements are expected to enhance access and safety.
The tour concluded in Mayiwane, where officials assessed service roads serving the communities of Ntokozweni, Mkhuzweni, Mfasini and Mavula. Some of the roads are earmarked for paving, while others will be re-gravelled to improve their usability.
