Mbabane – Thando Langa has finally broken his 13-year wait for silverware after lifting his first ever trophy with MTN Premier League champions Nsingizini Hotspurs.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who left Mbabane Highlanders only weeks ago following failed contract talks, was part of the Hotspurs squad that edged Green Mamba 1-0 in a tense final on Sunday. A superb free-kick by Quality Dlamini in the 20th minute sealed the win, giving Langa the breakthrough he had been chasing his entire career.
Writing on his Facebook page after the victory, Langa said: “Just over a week ago I received a phone call during which I was invited to a meeting wherein I had a project sold to me. At that moment, I didn’t even imagine that just the following week I’d have a gold medal dangling from my neck. My first ever in over 13 years in the Premier League of Eswatini.”
He added: “Thank you to those who have been sending love my way. That is noticed and greatly appreciated. Thank you Nsingizini Hotspurs FC. I have been warmly welcomed by everyone at this greatly ambitious club. Looking forward to a productive season characterised by hard work.”
Langa’s football journey has been defined by resilience. He started at Ludzeludze Killers in the Manzini Super League before moving on loan to Amajita in the Kwaluseni Promotion League. His performances earned him a transfer to Manzini Sea Birds, where he spent a decade without lifting a trophy.
Later, he joined Manzini Wanderers and became a regular figure in the top flight, but still, silverware eluded him. A move to Mbabane Highlanders, one of the most decorated clubs in the country, also failed to deliver success.
It was only after his late switch to Nsingizini Hotspurs that the long wait came to an end. For Langa, Sunday’s triumph is more than just a medal, it is a new chapter.
Hotspurs, who have already won the MoMo Cup in 2022 and 2023, are now targeting continental success. On 21 September, they will face Zimbabwe’s Simba Bhora in the CAF Champions League at Botswana’s Obed Itani Chilume Stadium.
