JOHANNESBURG – Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and five members of his technical staff are receiving treatment in hospital after being struck during a traffic accident on Sunday night.
The incident took place on the R21 highway as the team travelled back from Gqeberha following their 3–0 victory over Chippa United. According to a statement issued by the club, the coach and staff members had stepped out of the team bus to assist victims of an earlier collision involving two vehicles.
While attending to the scene, a Nissan NP200 crashed into the stationary cars, hitting the group and leaving several with serious injuries.
“Coach Ouaddou, along with the five affected staff members, were immediately transported to hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care,” read part of the Pirates statement.
The club said it remains in contact with doctors overseeing their recovery and has assured families of full support. “At this stage, our priority is the health and wellbeing of our colleagues. We ask for privacy and respect for those involved as they focus on recovery,” the statement continued.
