PIGG’S PEAK – Eighty-one participants, including 41 correctional officers and 40 inmates, received certificates after completing a two-week training programme in Digital Skills and Entrepreneurship at Pigg’s Peak Correctional Centre on Wednesday.
The initiative, led by Pigg’s Peak Innovation Hub in partnership with the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), seeks to modernize correctional services while equipping inmates with skills for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
iHub Director Sebenele Zikalala said the programme empowers officers to use modern technologies in correctional management, while inmates gain skills that open pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.
SEDCO CEO Khethiwe Mhlanga encouraged graduates to leverage their skills to establish businesses and create job opportunities. Assistant Commissioner Futhi Mhlanga, Officer-in-Charge at the facility, thanked iHub, SEDCO, and HMCS leadership for supporting the initiative.
HMCS Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini praised the programme and pledged to expand training to more officers and inmates, stressing the importance of continued collaboration between HMCS, iHub, and SEDCO.
The event received support from sponsors, including KFC Pigg’s Peak, which donated food hampers, and local MP Jabulani “Buy Cash” Mabuza, who contributed to the ceremony. Correctional officer Celumusa Mkhaliphi provided live jazz entertainment.
