Mdumezulu residents have welcomed a new community hall that ends years of holding meetings under trees and in open spaces during bad weather.
The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development handed over the facility on Friday to the Mdumezulu Royal Kraal Inner Council, led by Indvuna Mtiti Fakudze, a former Cabinet Minister and current chairperson of the Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications Corporation Board.
The ceremony drew the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and Mhlangatane MP, Dvokodvweni MP Mduduzi Tshabalala, Microprojects engineers and scores of residents.
Indvuna Fakudze thanked the Microprojects Programme for a hall that can accommodate more than 500 residents and urged the community to maintain it and protect it from straying livestock.
Microprojects representative Wandile Dlamini commended local cooperation during construction, while MP Tshabalala called on residents to treat the hall as a sign of government’s commitment to bringing services closer to rural communities.
The handover forms part of ongoing government efforts to improve infrastructure across chiefdoms. On Friday, the Ministry also scheduled the handover of another community hall at Macetjeni Chiefdom under the Gilgal constituency, with Chief Mshengu expected to attend.
