NELSPRUIT – A 40-year-old Mozambican man was arrested on 22 August 2025 at around 07:45 for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle near the N4 toll plaza in Kaapmuiden.
South African police conducting a routine stop-and-search operation received intelligence about a silver double cab heading from Nelspruit towards Malelane. Officers stopped the vehicle as it exited the toll gate. A routine check revealed that the license disk and registration number did not match, and the vehicle had been reported stolen in Gauteng.
The suspect told police he had been hired to deliver the vehicle to Malelane petrol station and admitted that it did not belong to him. He was taken into custody and the vehicle impounded for further investigation.
The accused is expected to appear on 25 August 2025 at Low’s Creek Periodical Court facing charges related to possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, raised concern over the rising number of stolen vehicles being transported across borders to neighbouring countries.
