Eight chefs from restaurants across Eswatini put their cooking skills to the test during a vegetable cooking competition hosted by the Chef Association at the Eswatini Culinary Centre on Friday.
The contest, which started at 8am, focused on showcasing creative and nutritious vegetable-based dishes using locally available produce. Each chef was given time to prepare a unique plate for a panel of judges.
Chef Sihle, one of the organisers, said the competition carried cash prizes, with the winner taking home E5,000, while second and third place received E3,500 and E1,500 respectively.
Two guest chefs from Mozambique were part of the judging panel, assessing dishes based on taste, presentation and originality.
A representative from Siyinqaba under the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) said the competition served as a platform for chefs to gain visibility and attract investment, noting that recognition could come even without winning if a dish caught the right attention.
