Mbabane: The cat is out of the bag!

It has reliably been gathered that the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has only two employees working on contracts. Initially, there were three employees including former Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Simanga Nhleko that were hired on contractual basis by the organization. Nhleko’s association with the PLE was ended abruptly by the Thabo ‘Touch’ Magagula led executive committee under unclear reasons.

Besides Nhleko, only Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati, accountant Nhlanhla Dlamini have contracts, as asserted in the audited statement submitted during the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in August last year. The statement reveals that the other employees including Development Officer Banele Masondo and one Zandile Matse have no written agreements with the PLE.

Interestingly, long serving employee of the PLE Ncamsile Mkhonta is not listed as an employee by the auditors. The audit team noted that not all personal records were attached into employees’ files as stated. “We’ve noted that the PLE systems of internal control are not entirely adequate. We urge management to review our concerns and take corrective measures as adequately required,” reads the audit report in part.

Masondo has been part of the PLE for a long time now, working on managing developments under the auspices of the organization including Esibayeni Lodge under 17s and 20s. It is not clear what work Matse is doing in the organization apart from normal office work. It could not also be ascertained how much she earns though it emerged that the COO is paid E8000 while the CEO gets E30 000 monthly. According to the PLE audit report the PLE has only 5 recognised employees though not all of them are contracted. Drawn for comment PLE COO Pat Vilakati said he cannot divulge personal information on a public platform like the media especially regarding the employment of workers. He said usually the issue of employment is between the employee and the employer and he was not the latter.
