The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has officially released new wage orders for the Building, Hotel, and Manufacturing sectors, with changes taking effect from 25 April 2025. The revised pay structure sets basic minimum wage rates across a broad range of job roles, affecting thousands of workers across the country.
According to the Ministry, gazetted wage adjustments now cover artisan grades, drivers, general labourers, and technical operators in the building and manufacturing industries. For instance, Artisan Grade I will now earn E27.83 per hour, while Artisan Grade II and III will receive E19.26 and E14.09 respectively. General labourers will earn E13.66, and light-duty drivers E14.66. Earthmover operators will earn E26.32 per hour, while crane drivers can now expect between E25.14 and E26.99 depending on their classification and certification.
The Hotel sector has also seen a structured revision. A Chef de Partie in the highest pay band will now receive E3,523.52 monthly, while a cleaner or room maid in the lowest band will earn E1,501.50. Receptionists, kitchen assistants, security guards, porters, and waitrons are included in the new scale, with adjustments based on their classification under Schedule A, B, or C.
Supervisors, casino workers, and technical trainees are also covered in the updated wage schedule, which outlines different pay bands for experienced staff and trainees. For instance, a storeman under Schedule A will now earn E3,168.70, while a trainee cashier or receptionist will earn a base of E1,501.50.
The Ministry has made the full gazettes accessible online, ensuring both employers and employees can review the revised rates and classifications in detail.
