Eswatini’s Minister of Health, Mduduzi Matsebula, has called for a comprehensive approach to tackle maternal and newborn health issues, stressing the need to improve mortality rates across the country. Speaking at the World Health Day event, Matsebula outlined the Ministry’s commitment to a year-long campaign aimed at addressing these challenges.
“Maternal and newborn health is more than just a medical issue; it is a basic human right that forms the foundation for strong families and vibrant communities,” Matsebula said. “When a mother thrives, her children thrive, and in turn, our nation prospers.”
Despite this, many women in Eswatini continue to face significant obstacles during pregnancy, childbirth, and post-delivery care. Matsebula acknowledged these hardships, stating that the country must do more to support its mothers and infants.
“The loss of a mother or a newborn is a profound tragedy for our nation,” he added. “It is vital that we come together across all sectors to ensure every mother and newborn not only survives but has the chance to flourish.”
