Ezulwini-The Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Principal Secretary Phesheya Dube said the broadcasting industry is developing to the new era of digital content monetisation opportunities. This he said was also a space that Eswatini and Google recently signed off to create value in the content that can be produced online.
“Another exciting development that will accelerate the growth of our broadcasting sector is the recent partnership between the Ministry of ICT and Google. This collaboration signals a new era for digital content creators, offering them monetization opportunities through platforms like YouTube,” Dube said.
The PS was speaking at the second day of the National Communications Forum hosted by the Eswatini Communication Commission (ESCCOM) on Thursday.
Dube while broadcasting remains to be regulated, it creates opportunities for many.
He said the sector stands to create partnerships between broadcasters, independent content producers and investors that would ‘position Eswatini as a key player in the digital economy. ‘
Dube said the broadcastibg sector faces limited local content and limited financial support.
He said support was needed to reform outdated regulatory frameworks that continue to stifle industry growth.
“But today I stand before you with optimism, knowing that transformative changes are underway, especially with the introduction of the Eswatini Broadcasting Act, which will serve as a catalyst for unlocking new economic opportunities in the industry,” Dube said.
