Mbabane -The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as Family Life Association of Swaziland (FLAS) has through a press statement refuted suggestions that it distributes condoms intended for usage during ‘any particular event.’
This comes after unfolding diverse social media comments of FLAS’s openly distributing condoms at the Hlane Buganu Ceremony over the weekend.
A report earlier by Eswatini Observer said that FLAS distributed 24 000 condoms at their information booth at the festival. Furthermore, FLAS Communications Officer Veli Gamedze said that they engaged visitors to their stall on the importance of sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
While the NGO said that it uses different platforms to distribute health information and offer services to the general public as such is standard practice, the statement refuted the suggestion condom distribution suggested that they could be used ‘during any particular event.’
“Our organisation is committed to empowering emaSwati with knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions. We are at the forefront of providing essential health services to women across Eswatini everyday,” FLAS management and National Executive Committee said.
Diverting views on social media circulated with others of the view that FLAS was carrying out their mandate while others said that it was immoral and tarnishes the event’s image.
