Eswatini’s Chief Justice (CJ) Bheki Maphalala’s salary has reached the E1 million per annum mark. Moreover, the CJ is entitled to five other employment benefits, including a 67 per cent medical aid contribution by the government and 10 per cent basic salary retention, a government gazette states.
According to the gazette stipulating the CJ and all judges’ salaries and benefits, the CJ earns E1 005 887, gross. This translates to about E83 824 per month.
The second place of the salary scale is that of Supreme Court judges at E956 683 per annum (E79 724 per month).
Both the Principal Judge and Judge President of the Industrial Court of Appeal earn E903 534 (E75 295 per month).
High Court and Industrial Court of Appeal judges’ salaries are marked at E882 274 (E73 522 per month) while Industrial Court judges earn E850 385 (E70 865 per month).
Judges are also entitled to 20 percent housing allowance, five percent entertaining allowance, 67 percent medical aid employer contribution, E5 000 communication allowance per month, three percent at basic salary for utilities, 15 percent basic salary for pension and 10 percent retention that would set them for good.
